Who’s your Top? Pick 5 to 10 companies you have interest in and learn more about them before the fair. Career centers knows which companies will attend the fairs – ask for the list.
Websites are your friend. Review company websites before the fair and ask yourself these questions:
· Do they have a college program?
· Do they have an internship or rotational program?
· Do they hire your degree plan?
Say Hello. Stop by and introduce yourself to the company recruiters or representatives – they do not bite. Next, ask your questions – this shows you are prepared and have interest.
What is next? Each company is different, so inquire about next steps and the application process. Do they take resumes at the booth? Do they want you apply online? Do they require an online test? Knowing the process will help you navigate the process correctly.
Do not take it personally if you don’t hear back. The market today is very competitive. There are also many factors outside your control that impact the likelihood and timing of responses and hiring. Standing out and leaving a good first impression gives you a competitive edge – and being well prepared and showing interest is how you do it.
