Mark your calendars—this Friday, September 13th, from 12 PM to 4 PM, the Bauer Career Fair will be held at the UH Hilton! With 145+ companies eager to connect with Bauer students, now’s the time to prepare. Check out these helpful tips to make the most of your experience!
1. Refresh Your Resume
Make sure your resume is up to date. We recommend using the Bauer Resume Templates (BBA) (MBA/MS) found on HireBauer.com. These templates are employer-approved and designed to highlight the most important information to help you stand out.
If you need a resume review, drop by our office (BBA students only) Monday – Thursday from 1 PM – 4 PM for quick feedback.
2. Get the Career Fair Plus App
Don’t waste time wandering around—download the Career Fair Plus app! It includes a list of all attending companies and a map of their locations in the UH Hilton, so you can plan your time wisely.
You can also filter through the companies that have internships or Full-Time roles for your major!
3. Research the Companies
Familiarize yourself with the 145 companies attending the fair using the Career Fair Plus app. Being well-prepared and knowing a bit about the companies you’re interested in will help you make a strong impression. Avoid winging it—have thoughtful questions ready if you’re serious about pursuing an opportunity.
4. Engage with Recruiters
A conversation with a recruiter is your chance to make a memorable connection. Don’t just talk about yourself—ask them about their experiences at the company. Some questions you could ask include:
- What do you enjoy about working at (Company)?
- What challenges have you faced in your role?
- What is your favorite part of the job?
- Can you describe a typical day, for someone in (open role)?
- What traits do successful employees at (Company) typically have?
- What’s the best next step after meeting you today?
5. Pack Light
Keep it simple! Large bags and backpacks aren’t ideal since there’s no place to store them in the UH Hilton. Carry only what you need: a padfolio or folder for your resumes, a notepad, a pen/pencil, and perhaps a small purse. Lockers are available on the second floor of Cemo Hall if needed. Bring about 10–15 copies of your resume, or more if you plan to visit a lot of companies.
6. Dress for Success
This is a professional attire event, so make sure you’re dressed appropriately, or you may not be allowed to enter. If you are unsure what to wear, check out our posts on What to Wear and Frequently Asked Questions about professional dress.
You will be standing for a while, so choose comfortable shoes. Need professional attire? The Rockwell Career Center Suit Closet has suits and separates available for students at no cost, for interviews and career fairs. You can also borrow a padfolio from our front desk. Visit us on the second floor of Cemo Hall from 8 AM to 5 PM to borrow a suit.
Extra Tips to Stand Out
Be prepared, be confident, and make the most of this opportunity to connect with potential employers! Don’t forget to thank any recruiter/employers with whom you had great conversations 24 hours after the Career Fair.
