Internships for Credit »

Here are the steps necessary to be enrolled for the Bauer CO-OP course.

Bauer CO-OP is a course designed for International Students ONLY. It is a no-credit, zero-cost, transcript designation for the purpose of maintaining status with UH ISSSO and SEVIS.

Step 1: Secure the Internship / CO-OP Experience

  • Please note that students that run their own businesses or are independent contractors (aka independent advisors, independent associates) do not qualify for Internships for Credit or CO-OP. Multi-Level Marketing roles can not be counted as Internships for Credit or CO-OP. CO-OP is based on Experiential Learning, where a student is receiving instruction from a supervisor similar to what they would learn in the classroom but in a work environment.

Step 2: Check your eligibility to see if you qualify for CO-OP / CPT.

  • Must be a business student (Pre-Business or Declared Business Major)
  • Must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher (Note CPT may require 3.00 – see CPT form for details)
  • Must have already completed BUSI 3302 prior to the start of the CO-OP.
  • Must have completed one full academic year of full-time study PRIOR to the start of the CO-OP Experience.
  • Internship hours worked must total at least 160 hours, 80 of which must be in the semester in which the student is enrolled in CO-OP.

Step 3: Complete the Application Process for CPT (Curricular Practical Training)

  • Visit the UH ISSSO website for F-1 Employment and download the form for the UnderGraduate CPT Application. Please be sure to use the current form from UH ISSSO.
  • Complete the form and email it along with a job description and offer letter to your assigned Bauer Undergraduate Academic Advisor.

Your Academic Advisor will check your eligibility for CPT and CO-OP and forward the form to the Rockwell Career Center. The RCC’s Office of Experiential Learning will review your application materials for minimum qualifications and inform you of your status by email. This can take up to 2 business days.  You will receive an e-mail notifying you whether your application has been approved. If approved, the RCC will enroll you in the CO-OP course BUSI B011.
