Full Job Description

The Budget & Management Reporting Analyst reports directly to the Director for Resource Planning and Decision Support in the Financial Affairs office in the School of Medicine (SOM) Dean’s Office, and serves as a key member of the Consolidated Budget Team. The Analyst uses advanced professional concepts and organizational objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways; works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in- depth evaluation of variable factors; and exercises judgement in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

The Analyst:

  • Assists in developing the necessary analytical tools and programs that support management and strategic decisions
  • Performs complex financial modeling and analyses for executive management
  • Serves as a key resource in the development and implementation of the School’s consolidated budget process
  • Serves as a liaison to departments, organized research units, and other School entities during the School’s consolidated budget process to help insure a successful, informative budget meeting with the Dean and other topic leadership executives
  • Provides financial information to meet ad hoc reporting demands, as well as internal and external reporting requirements
  • Leads complex special projects with a School wide impact as identified by the Director of, Resource Planning and Decision Support and the Associate Dean, Financial Affairs
  • Leverages expertise and special project responsibilities to instill an overarching mindset of continuous process improvement in the Financial Affairs office and School finance staff, especially as it relates to financial management applications and practices
  • Is responsible for providing effective input and establishing work products that benefit the School at large.

Department Description

The Deans Office Finance Unit is committed to providing professional financial advice, guidance and service to the UCSF School of Medicine (SOM) Deans Office, SOM departments, Organized Research Units and affiliates.

Required Qualifications

  • MBA with an emphasis in accounting or finance or other Master’s degree, and 5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Advanced knowledge of, and experience in finance planning, budgeting and decision support, preferably in higher education/research/academic environments, including strong working knowledge of finance and operations metrics
  • Demonstrated ability to use MS Office and other database software tools to gather information for specialized, complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports
  • Experience leading change management activities in a complex, matrixed organizational environment
  • Advanced client service orientation, critical thinking skills, and attention to detail. In depth ability to use organizational skills to multi-task in a dynamic work environment
  • Advanced ability to deliver training and presentations across a broad organizational constituency and to effectively present complex finance related information both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the demonstrated ability to interact positively and effectively with staff and leaders. Demonstrated political acumen and ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the institution
  • Ability to function as a reliable team member and ability to adapt to changing priorities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in enterprise-level budgeting tools and applications, e.g. Hyperion or PLUS
  • Experience in UC accounting policies, practices, procedures, and/or systems
