Responsible for investing, supporting, and managing the AEP Investments Portfolio (Direct Companies and VC Funds). This broad strategic investments role requires a specialized depth of understanding of venture capital, industry-specific financial and strategic knowledge, corporate finance and valuation methodologies, as well as skills and abilities necessary to successfully collaborate with other corporate departments. Duties will include evaluation of potential direct investments and vc funds, company valuation and analysis, preparing investment memos, strategic studies and analysis, and preparation of presentations for Executive Council and Board of Directors.
Essential Job Functions & Tasks:
Demonstrate flexibility with respect to assigned tasks and engagements due to changing deadlines, changing priorities, and evolving deadlines.
Perform investment due diligence, financial benchmarking on peer groups and asset classes.
Research on high-level, complex competitive landscapes, corporate, SEC, FERC, and State filings, as requested.
Perform analysis of potential direct investments, vc funds, joint ventures, and strategic alliance opportunities.
Develop investment memos and executive briefings, including c-suite presentations.
Assist and support in the investment due diligence, formulation, and research of investment opportunities to enhance customer and shareholder value.
Work independently, or in a team environment, effectively on all assigned tasks.
Assist and support in investment recommendations and guidance to the AEP Investment Committee, as well as colleagues and fellow team members, to ensure best possible outcome.
Provide support, guidance, and leadership to other AEP Business Units as needed.
Note: This position will be filled at the experience and salary grade level commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate, as compared to the listed requirements below.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or Economics; Advanced Degree, such as MBA in listed fields, preferred.
Experience: Three (3) years of financial modeling, business valuation, and/or utility industry experience; Five (5) years of experience in listed areas required for consideration at upper level (Coordinator). Two (2) years of experience in mergers and acquisitions or strategic transactions preferred within or in addition to required minimum experience.
Licenses/Certifications: CFA/CPA, or progress toward obtaining, preferred but not required.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & DESIRED SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
Strong business acumen and foundational knowledge of finance, accounting, and tax.
Possess aptitude for quantitative and qualitative analysis.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and simultaneous projects autonomously, with guidance required minimal and in only most complex situations.
Demonstrated willingness to learn and continuously develop and build new skills and knowledge.
Strong and impactful written and oral communication skills necessary.
Availability/Flexibility and willingness to work additional hours, including weekends, and ability to travel as needed, to ensure project deadline are met.
