Danaher’s Water Quality Business is a global leader in water quality analysis and treatment, providing instrumentation and disinfection systems to help analyze and manage the quality of ultra-pure water, potable water, wastewater, groundwater and ocean water in residential, commercial, industrial, and natural resource applications. Our water quality business provides products under a variety of brands, including HACH, ChemTreat, and Trojan Technologies.
The Strategic Marketing Manager, Open Innovation is an important leadership position within Hach and a key member of the Marketing Product Strategy team. The successful candidate will lead and develop a high-performing, growth-oriented team to help drive the organization’s NPD growth equation. This is largely achieved through improvement in Hach’s product pipeline value by building a funnel of third-party innovation partners to address high-impact growth opportunities and then executing to meet on-time delivery and revenue achievement expectations. This position may also assume responsibility for cross-functional company and/or Marketing-wide initiatives and meetings as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/SUCCESS FACTORS:
Provide leadership and drive cross-functional alignment to deliver company objectives, including but not limited to:
Charts the Course:
Owns Hach’s open innovation funnel and roadmap execution through the DDS OI Process. Manages and prioritizes resources to accelerate viability assessment and successfully transfer ventures to Commercial Marketing teams.
Manages relationship with partners going through viability assessment by setting expectations, establishing milestones and sustaining clear and open communication.
Quickly establishes credibility, trust and support with all levels of internal and external organizations including peers, subordinates and senior management.
Approaches work with a strong sense of ownership, commitment and urgency. Not afraid of challenging status quo.
Develops strategies, drives tactics, and provides leadership in highly dynamic, ambiguous, and complex environments.
Drives Innovation & Growth
Leads the team to validate commercial and technical viability for external partners through Hach established channels.
Uses fail-fast mindset, able to recognize underperformance and redirect resources to higher ROI opportunities.
Uses market information and Voice of the Customer (VOC) to provide input and feedback to solidify new product development concepts and validate product roadmaps.
Provides business leadership to alliance teams and drives prioritization of critical few to accelerate time to market.
Creates processes to allow product managers to efficiently navigate traditional hurdles to commercialize open innovation products.
Builds People, Teams, and Organizations:
Develops a highly engaged, high performing, growth-oriented team of Global Product and Product Application Managers.
Ensures the team is doing the rights things (focusing on the critical few) and doing things right (leveraging DBS and best demonstrated practices).
Drives organizational alignment to successfully build and grow Hach’s commercial open innovation business
Develops global business processes to assure sustainability and standard work for the open innovation team.
OTHER NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Actively participates in the development of the product roadmap and annual strategic plan.
Performs other duties as required.
BS or BA in Engineering or the Sciences required; MBA or equivalent highly desired
5+ years of experience in any combination of the following: introducing analytical solutions, alliance management, research and development, business development, negotiations, communications and project management
Must have high level of strategic agility, excellent decision making and problem-solving skills
Ability to present highly complex, technical, or difficult messages clearly and persuasively
Superior interpersonal skills
Demonstrated record of driving results
Demonstrated skill at leading a global cross-discipline team
Experience introducing analytical solutions to Hach Company customer base or similar experience preferred
Broad knowledge of Hach Company’s marketplace, customer applications, and use of Hach products in the market is preferred
Demonstrated ability to quickly acquire new knowledge and skills as required
Demonstrated ability to prioritize clearly and manage finite resources
