IT Assurance Intern
Fall Intern Position Description
The BMC IT Assurance intern position provides students the ability to apply coursework in a real-world environment. BMC interns have exposure to various levels of company management and to the daily operations of one of the largest technology companies in Houston.
1. Gain a better understanding of financial processes, by testing automated IT SOX controls (interface, calculation and configuration)
2. Test automated financial controls and follow up on questions from Process Leads and Managers.
3. Document testing in the document retention tool, TeamMate.
4. Interview and report orally on a company executive.
Participate in evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of processes, systems, applications, and internal controls to assess the extent to which: (a) financial and operational activities produce accurate and reliable information; (b) financial, property and information assets are properly secured and safeguarded; (c) policies and regulations are adhered to (d) resources are employed effectively and efficiently; and (d) significant risks are appropriately identified and managed.
Participate in work paper preparation and documentation, meetings with owners, and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance testing.
IT Assurance interns will perform testing over a wide range of automated application controls tied to financial processes, including system and application interfaces, system calculations and application configurations, which will assist in verifying completeness and accuracy of financial reports.
IT Assurance interns should have preferably completed coursework in information systems and have a general knowledge of COBIT, ITIL, and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
