The role of the Intern is to directly work on current projects in their designated department, engage and interact with professionals and other interns, and build relationships and networking/professional skills. The intern will participate in volunteer days through CNO, prepare presentations, and communicate regularly with their manager/team.

At CNO Financial Group , we believe interns bring new perspectives to existing challenges. The CNO Financial Intern Program gives students an opportunity to learn about CNO and network while doing important work for the organization. This program compliments the learning that each department provides for the students through work and other activities.

As an IT Intern you will work with the IT Strategy and Operational Excellence Team to deliver value to the organization. The Intern team will utilize Agile/Scrum principles to understand, prioritize, and deliver outcomes that matter to CNO Financial. Areas of interest include Data Analysis, Business Analysis, Systems Analysis, and Agile Delivery. Business demand will drive the opportunities available to the Intern Team.

Previous Internships have provided the following experiences:

  • Data Analytics – provided business access to define what the data is, how to assemble it in a meaningful way and what simple trends & initial insights have been found. Understanding these simple trends and insights can assist the business in building reports that will capture the domain’s behavior.

  • IT Operational Excellence and Strategy – Service Delivery Metrics: designed metrics, created dashboards, built presentations, produced competitive analysis ‘and reviewed/reported upon trends.

  • Process Automation – documented process flows and automation coding using Pega, and Automation Anywhere. The RPA BOT Builder worked closely with Business Owners to document current state of the desired automation opportunities. Additionally, the BOT Builder shadowed the RPA Architect to ensure that coding followed Standards and Guidelines for optimum performance and monitoring during production.

  • Business Analysis/Systems Analysis – worked on requirements elicitation, analysis and creating requirements documentation using visualization and modeling. Facilitated requirement review sessions with multiple stakeholder across the organization, partnered with Architects to design and implement technical solutions, and worked closely with the development team to ensure requirement acceptance criteria was met.

  • Security – Evaluated existing processes regarding corporate adherence to security protocols, and adoption of CNO security rules and standards. Reviewed documentation and on-boarding protocols for the Security team.

Key Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Engage with Business/IT stakeholders

  • Perform research, including preparation of questionnaires

  • Update, modify, develop and work to automate reports

  • Produce and participate in the design, analysis and presentation of work outputs

  • Data mining, data validation, and data architecture, and data analysis

  • Collaborate with business, solution architecture, testing and development team

  • Responsible for creating product backlog items, work items, and managing work execution.

  • Expected to attend and participate sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily standups, sprint reviews/product demos, and sprint retrospectives.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Proficient with MS Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Outlook.

  • Ability to work independently and as a motivated team player

  • Ability to be organized and prioritize work; seek direction as appropriate

  • Pursuing a degree in industrial engineering, computer science or information systems related discipline

  • Good interpersonal & consultative skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication

  • Self-motivated, organized and effective time management skills
