Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Benefits Coordinator coordinates employee benefits for all full and part-time members of the Classified Staff, Adjuncts and Continuing Education Teachers (CET). The Coordinator also serves as a member of the Benefits team and liaison to the health insurance carriers, University Benefits Office (UBO), retirement systems, Union welfare funds and other related benefits agencies.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Benefits Coordinator is also responsible for the following tasks:
• Conduct benefits orientations for Full-time Instructional, Classified Managerial and Classified Staff;
• Counsel and advise staff and faculty on benefits matters through written material, individual and group meetings, and workshops;
• Administer Health Insurance and pension for Full-time Faculty and Staff;
• Create and maintain benefits files for all staff;
• Maintain and update benefits related forms and supplies as needed;
• Prepare employment histories for TRS and other retirement systems;
• Assists in the processing of all benefits related leaves (Family Medical Leave, Paid Parental Leave, Child-Care Leave, Temporary Disability, etc). Maintain spreadsheets related to leaves;
• Coordinate data processing for CUNYFirst, Pi, PMS and NYCAPS;
• Upkeep and maintain benefits information on the Human Resources website under the direction of the Manager.
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Knowledge of New York city health benefits and pension systems highly desirable; CUNY experience preferred. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated organizational ability preferred; Team player and ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments; Detailed oriented and willingness to work in a fast-paced environment.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Administers employee benefits programs for faculty and staff, assists in overall benefit administration, and provides employees with information regarding benefits.
Counsels and assists staff on employee benefits matters
Conducts workshops as part of new employee orientation on benefits matters
Administers selected benefits, such as COBRA coverage
Serves as a liaison to insurance carriers, retirement systems, welfare funds, and University Benefits office
Coordinates benefits processing in Payroll systems and other University systems
Prepares reports for College administration
Assists in updating materials and web pages for employee use
Maintains accurate, confidential employee records
Performs related duties as assigned.
