The main goal of our audit internship program is to provide high-quality training and hands-on experience to students who are interested in pursuing a career in auditing and/or accounting. Through our program, interns will have the opportunity to learn about the principles and techniques of auditing, as well as the unique challenges and opportunities of the industry. Additionally, our program will provide interns with the chance to apply their classroom learning in a real-world setting, as they work on a variety of different audits under the supervision of experienced auditors. Our program is designed to help interns develop the skills and competencies that are necessary for success in the auditing profession, with a focus on the automotive retail industry, and to provide them with the opportunity to explore potential career paths in this exciting and dynamic field.
The objectives of our audit internship program include:
• Providing interns with the opportunity to gain practical experience in conducting audits of retail businesses, including financial statement audits, compliance audits, and operational audits, using relevant industry standards and regulations.
• Introducing interns to the unique challenges and opportunities of the automotive retail industry, including issues related to vehicle sales, financing, and service.
• Helping interns develop the skills and competencies that are necessary for success in the auditing profession, with a focus on the retail industry, such as knowledge of sales and service processes, and the ability to analyze and interpret complex financial data.
• Providing interns with the chance to learn about the culture and values of our organization, and to develop professional networks in the Audit and Accounting industry.
• Giving interns the opportunity to explore potential career paths in auditing for the automotive retail industry and make informed decisions about their future.
• Offering Group 1 an additional pool of talent and creativity, enabling us to identify prospective future employees who possess knowledge and experience.
The internal audit internship is planned to start the week of May 15th and have a duration of 10-12 weeks, dependent on the intern’s class schedule. During the summer program the intern may be assigned to several tasks including SOX 404 testing, industry-specific government regulations compliance testing, and development of continuous auditing and continuous monitoring applications leveraging big data, using data analytics tools such as Alteryx, PowerBi, and Qlik Sense
Tasks and responsibilities for audit interns may include: • Participating in training sessions and workshops on auditing principles and techniques, as well as industry-specific regulations and standards. • Assisting experienced auditors in the preparation of audit plans and working papers, and in the execution of audit procedures. • Conducting fieldwork and interviews, and collecting and analyzing data to support audit findings and conclusions. • Preparing draft audit reports, and participating in review and feedback sessions with experienced auditors. • Learning about the tools and technologies used in the auditing profession, and gaining proficiency in their use. • Participating in team meetings and other professional development activities, and building relationships with other interns and experienced auditors. • Completing assigned tasks and projects within agreed-upon timelines and budgets, and meeting the performance expectations of the internship program.
Preferred Qualifications • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting • Participation in Internal Audit classes or school programs is a plus, but not required • Minimum major and overall GPA of 3.0 preferred • Excellent analytical, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills • Strong technical aptitude and skillset • Demonstrated project management skillset including project planning and time management • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a complex team environment
