Your Role and Responsibilities

IBM’s Corporate Intellectual Property team has a mission to monetize IBM’s technology by finding new markets and use cases for technologies and structuring win-win business intellectual property licensing relationships. The team includes highly qualified individuals, such as yourselves with backgrounds in both technical and business domains.

Successful candidates will be highly intelligent, and energetic individuals. He/she will be a team-player, with strong potential to work in a business role upon graduation. The selected candidate will be an outstanding listener, highly motivated, with emerging judgment to do what is right for IBM. This individual will also possess the ability to dive into details while maintaining a ‘big picture’ view. Candidates will be studying, will have studied engineering and/or have a solid understanding of technology fundamentals. Ideally, interns will have worked in a strategy development role or business development function at an established technology company or a tech start-up. Interns are expected to be excellent students, having achieved strong academic credentials and good grades.

The intern recruited will be a current MBA student with experience in strategy development and technology. Over the internship, the intern will develop sales plays we may run in the second half of 2021 by providing an outside-in view from the market, evaluation of business needs from leading Systems, Storage and Cognitive clients and mapping to IBM IP capabilities. We will share the work product developed across the IP team.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Matriculation in an MBA program

  • Strong analytical and communication skills. Strong work ethic and drive to excel, A team-player,

  • Ability to understand market trends, emerging business models

  • Some familiarity with one or more of the following functions: product development, business development, marketing and sales functions.

  • Adept at using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Experience at a start-up as an intern or full-time employee

  • Interest in pursuing a career in product management, marketing, sales, business development

  • Direct experience with one or more of the following functions: product development, business development, marketing and sales functions.

  • Ability to create business cases, analyze industry trends and create market reports.
