Our Commodity Markets and Finance (CMF) group sits within Commodities and Global Markets and provides risk management, lending and financing, and physical execution and logistics services across the energy, metals and agricultural sectors globally.
The Macquarie Internship Program
Today, as commodities continue to underpin the building of our cities, as our global energy needs continue to grow, and with technology changing the world, the projects you’ll work on will empower people to innovate and invest for a better future.
Our fast-paced ten-week internship program will provide you with hands-on experience in the world of financial services. The program kicks off with an orientation providing you with the opportunity to learn about the Macquarie business groups as you meet your fellow interns and expand your network.
On the desk, you’ll be given meaningful and challenging work allowing you to gain practical experience. You will receive support from your manager and aligned mentor. And additionally, participate in philanthropic and social events to connect you to our collaborative culture.
Your role in Structuring
An internship with the Structuring team will open doors to a future move into either a trading or sales position. With the foundational knowledge gained during your internship, you will be able to further your career either within CMF or other areas of Macquarie.
Typical tasks within the Structuring team may include:
Value and design various complex transactions in the North American Power and Gas markets such as electric full requirements and natural gas transportation
Perform valuations of businesses for M&A projects
Develop custom pricing models to respond to market and industry needs
Contribute to pricings and projects in commodities such as oil, coal, and uranium originated in Macquarie offices globally
Analyze credit risk, market risk, and operational risk to assess both exposures and returns on capital in a bank environment
Interact with other groups across Macquarie to obtain transaction and model approvals
Support Sales and Trading teams by providing ad-hoc analysis and spreadsheet tools
Who we are looking for:
Juniors with excellent academic records and an understanding of or experience in financial markets and derivative products
A passion for and understanding of markets. Someone willing to commit to learning the fundamental drivers of different commodities markets.
Critical thinkers with strong mathematical skills who express their thoughts and ideas clearly.
Proactive and organized self-starters with a positive attitude, powerful work ethic, strong attention to detail with experience and comfort in Excel and VBA.
