Mattress Firm is excited to announce the opening of the Director of Learning & Development position! Reporting to the Vice President of Learning & Development, the Director of Learning and Development will oversee assessment and identification of the business’s training and development needs for the effective coordination of training and development programs for the business. The Director of Learning and Development actively searches, creatively designs, and implements effective methods for enhancing performance, and recognizing outstanding performance.
Set vision and strategy for multifaceted learning and organizational development programs, tools, and processes across a nation-wide working population of 7,000+ Mattress Firm employees.
Maintain and enhance a portfolio of existing and emerging learning programs utilizing prior experience to similar adaptive learning technologies such as SABA, Cornerstone, etc.
Understand and utilize current and incoming data at a high level to provide accurate analytics for ongoing and future learning programs.
Develop/recommend/execute training and development strategies to support the continued growth of the company and its employees.
Oversee/participate in the design, develop and delivery of effective learning programs.
Ensure alignment of company goals and mission through strategic training management and implementation.
Drive the technological innovation and implementation of the department.
Evaluate the effectiveness of existing training strategies, resources, methods, processes and evaluation techniques
Work within budget to collaboratively develop and execute training programs.
Develop and implement targeted executive learning strategies and development initiatives.
Assess training needs and ensure the effective design of training programs.
Work with management to identify learning opportunities and direct the development of appropriate training content to support company initiatives.
Perform all duties inherent in a managerial role. Provide direction/coaching/training to ensure the ongoing development of staff, and interview candidates for employment.
Evaluate staff performance and as appropriate, recommend hirings, salary actions, promotions and disciplinary actions.
Evaluate learning programs and effectiveness through the collection of data and feedback.
Partner and consult with business leadership to create learning strategies and programs for business improvement.
Need for learning analytics and technology and systems
Participate in special projects and perform other duties as required.
Manage the “go to market” tactical elements of all learning programs.
Collaborate with subject matter experts to integrate relevant concepts/information into learning strategies/programs.
Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Professional Experience7+ Years Experience as a leader of a successful learning and development department. required
Proven experience as an L&D Manager, Training Manager or similar required
Experience in project management and budgeting required
Experience implementing and managing an LMS required
Experience with adaptive learning software preferred
Learning Technologies: Understanding of adaptive learning technologies such as SABA, Cornerstone, etc.
Multi-Platform Work: Strong understanding of working with various data across learning platforms
Learning and Development Methods: Current knowledge of effective learning and development methods.
Program Execution: Proven expertise in the development and execution of national and local training programs.
Communication Skills: Exceptional oral/written communication skills.
Attention to Detail: Ability to perform comfortably in a deadline-oriented work environment.
Assess Program Results: Ability to evaluate and assess learning results in correlation with business metrics.
Multi-Tasking: Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Technological Knowledge: Technological knowledge and expertise in the Learning Management and Adaptive Learning spaces.
