Based in New York City, we serve clients across the country.
Our service offerings include: philanthropic prize, competition, and fellowship design and management; project management of co-funded initiatives and pooled funds; emergency fund coordination; strategic planning; evaluation; partnership development; grants management; signature program design; donor trip design and execution; and more. Current client projects focus on a diverse array of issue areas, including social innovation, early childhood development, equitable economic recovery, and labor and worker rights.
Across all our work, we prioritize equity and diversity of backgrounds, thought, and experiences. We strive to support organizations that work not just for but with impacted communities and center their voices and leadership.
About this Role
An internship with Social Strategy Associates is an ideal opportunity for an MPA or other master’s level student seeking to experience the real world of social impact consulting, providing insight into what a future career in philanthropy and social impact would be like.
As a boutique firm with three full-time employees in addition to the Founder/Managing Director, this internship offers the benefit of direct client contact and substantive involvement in real client work. We pride ourselves on having a collaborative and all-hands-on-deck work culture – that is, from developing high-level strategy to printing out nametags the morning of a public event, all team members roll up their sleeves and work together to get the job done.
A typical day might include:
- Actively supporting project leads in the day-to-day of managing client accounts, which includes keeping track of a timeline of next steps, quickly and accurately responding to client requests, taking detailed notes during client meetings, and more.
- Preparing client deliverables, including the research, analysis, and administrative tasks that contribute to these deliverables.
- Actively engaging in internal and external meetings to strategize, brainstorm, and provide input on ongoing tasks and deliverables.
- Administrative tasks as assigned, including scheduling meetings with internal and external parties, taking meeting notes, tracking contacts, reconciling budgets, and other similar tasks.
- Building the capacity of a young firm, from editing proposals to enhancing internal processes to representing the firm at external functions.
- Spearheading extensive outreach plans and customized content for clients, such as preparing press releases, email templates, social media posts, and more.
We seek a highly motivated and action-oriented Graduate Intern with advanced knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word and, ideally, the Google equivalents of these tools. The internship runs from January through May, for three days per week. While this is a semester-long position, we prioritize candidates who may be interested in continuing their relationship with SSA beyond this timeframe.
The position is typically based out of a beautiful client office in the Flatiron neighborhood of New York City, but our team has learned to operate remotely over these past two years. Given our current comfort with remote work, we are excited to hear from qualified applicants both in and outside of the New York City area.
This internship pays a stipend of $1,000 per month and, ideally, will help to fulfill credit hours for an approved graduate school program; Social Strategy Associates will also sponsor the cost of academic credits associated with the internship course, if applicable. While our firm anticipates continued growth, no guarantee of future employment is explicitly or implicitly implied as a result of the internship. Previous interns have moved on to full-time positions at a variety of organizations, including Accenture, Boston Consulting Group, DREAM (formerly Harlem RBI), and Taproot Foundation.
Social Strategy Associates is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. SSA recruits, hires, and trains its staff without regard to sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, race, color, ethnic identity, national origin, age, creed, religion, disability, socio-economic status, marital status, veteran status, or any other legally protected basis. We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States; we are not able to sponsor visas at this time.
