DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The GIS Analyst will perform primary GIS development and technical support functions as member of the Enterprise Geographic Information System and participate in GIS Team based projects including customer desktop and/or web-based application system to support City of Houston EGIS goals and objectives. This position requires utmost attention to detail with GIS editing and database maintenance.
Determines effective presentation of GIS data and selects appropriate mapping format, cartographic elements and styles. Using established departmental templates and standards, create high quality maps, reports, and presentations in support of various GIS projects.
Confident GIS user of ArcGIS Desktop and familiar with ArcGIS Pro for mapping and analysis.
Consult with users and prospective users to develop understanding of GIS and identify appropriate applications.
Work with various departments within the city to determine proper GIS products to meet their program goals
Hold GIS Training classes for staff for intro GIS concepts.
Edit data in a multi-user versioned environment.
Research, develop, implement, and maintain GIS data layers in the enterprise.
Use AGO and WebbApp Builder for building internal /external applications for end users.
Familiarity with Spatial Analyst and Network Analyst Esri extensions for raster and network analysis.
Strong geocoding background and familiarity with rematch / research concepts for cleaning addresses.
Automate processes using current tools such as Model builder / Python
Performs other duties or assists with special projects as needed (i.e. public information /validation requests, ESRI Community Map, and Planning Department initiatives)

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Science, Planning, Geography, Computer Science or a closely related field.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
No experience is required.
Substitution: Professional experience working with a comprehensive geographic information system may be substituted for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
