Job Summary: The Career Consultant will provide comprehensive career development and professional employment services to students and alumni interested in various careers.
Additional Department Summary: This position assists the Director of Career Services with, resume, cover letter, and mock interview preparations. Handshake management to include selecting and compiling student resumes, scheduling and assisting with interviews and corporate information sessions. Managing the updating, tracking and grading of Manderson Career Workshop beginning in the spring semester. Preparing up to 16 professional development events yearly, internship and Job search acquisition advice. Outreach and reporting on internships and post-graduation outcome for all 600+ Manderson students. Managing the Blackboard courses for Manderson Career Services. Preparing materials and presentations for MBA and Specialized Masters Orientation beginning in the spring semester.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of experience in career services, student services, business, human resources management, or counseling; OR Master’s degree or higher with at least one (1) year experience in career services, student services, business, human resources management, or counseling. Ability to work outside of traditional work hours.
Skills and Knowledge: Proficient in Concur, Astra, Blackboard, and Banner. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Thorough understanding of the use, and the ability to coach students, on the University career tool, Handshake. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Qualtrics. Ability to use Excel to create and maintain weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Meticulous attention to detail. Must be able to proof, edit, and do rewrites. Time management skills a must.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree. Previous experience working one-on-one with graduate level students. Certification in resume writing, career coaching, or both. Experience in interview preparation, public speaking and/or communications coaching. Experience with developing and executing on- and off-campus events for recruiters and students. Experience compiling, reviewing, editing, and rewriting content for department publications or related work. Able to manage one or more part-time student workers. Available to travel overnight and work occasional evenings and weekends.
