Summary of Responsibilities:

Writes and coordinates multiple strategic corporate and financial communications projects from concept development through completion. Provides support for marketing initiatives at the corporate as well as the CBU level. Provides copywriting services and executes special projects. Works with minimal supervision and is responsible for making an established range of decisions; escalating to manager when appropriate and updating manager regularly.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develops requirements, timelines and documentation for projects, and creates project estimates based on requirements and resources. Ensures that corporate standards and methodologies are utilized.

  • Coordinates schedules of projects with internal and external stakeholders, and represents Western & Southern Financial Group with outside customers.

  • Plans, researches, interviews and drafts copy for corporate and business units’ communications projects.

  • Works with management and Shared Services (examples, Public Relations, Human Resources, Benefits, etc.) to provide communications support, from creating communications plans to drafting and coordinating successful completion of such projects.

  • Serves as senior officer speechwriter.

  • Establishes strong customer relationships and resolves problems and project issues that arise, elevating such issues to manager if necessary.

  • Serves on Enterprise-wide and intradepartment committees as assigned, and takes ownership of committee’s communications needs.

  • Provides input related to key messages and other related activities.

  • Participates in meetings with senior officers and other executives to identify key messages and solicit input/approval, and provides copywriting and editing services to Western & Southern’s annual reports and other projects.

  • Works with a variety of Corporate Communications’ team members on special projects to ensure that proper message tracks are communicated to internal and external audiences.

  • Assists the Creative Services team in developing overall concepts/strategies for executive communications and corporate identity collateral pieces, and collaborates with graphic designers to coordinate copy and design.

  • Executes existing financial communications, which may include subsidiary annual reports, product marketing literature, brochures and other strategic communications.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills required to develop appropriate business communications to all levels of internal and external audiences. (Candidates will be expected to provide samples of original written work.)

  • Proven project management skills required to manage complex communications issues from various executive levels to diverse internal and external audiences.

  • Proven ability to work independently, set prioirities and meet deadlines.

  • Proven strong creative conceptual skills.

  • Demonstrated success in managing multiple tasks with varying priorities while meeting deadlines.

  • Proven understanding of the needs of internal and external audiences, including associates, retirees, media and vendors.

  • Demonstrated understanding of strategic communications, such as product development, product and issue positioning, and stakeholder communications.

  • Proven ability to create, implement and evaluate communications strategies.

  • Demonstrated strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, especially concerning sensitive issues that could affect Western & Southern Financial Group and the community.

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; ability to interact effectively with and represent the department at all Company levels.

  • Familiarity with Associated Press Stylebook expected.

  • Knowledge of financial services, insurance or related industry helpful.

Work Setting:

  • This position works in an office setting and remains continuously in a stationary position for long periods of time while working at a desk, on a computer or with other standard office equipment, or while in meetings.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, English, journalism, advertising, communications, marketing or related field, or commensurate selection criteria experience.

Computer Skills and Knowledge of Hardware & Software Required:

  • Proficient in word processing applications.

Certifications & Licenses (i.e., Series 6 & 63, CPA, etc.):

  • None required.

Position Demands:

  • Extended hours required during peak workloads or special projects.

  • Limited travel may be required.
