Technical Consultant

Technical Consultants work with organizations and businesses to improve their use of technology and solve any issues they may be having. Technical consultants are seen as experts in their fields including management information systems, computer science, and/or engineering.  Technical consultants typically work for a technical consulting firm or within the technical division of a consulting firm but can also work on a freelance basis.

Consulting is a very challenging yet rewarding field. A technical consultant is expected to become knowledgeable about their client’s products and services as well as any technology they are using within a short amount of time. Since every client is different, there is always something new to learn. Being able to pick up new technology quickly is a plus. Technical consultants are expected to have analytical and quantitative skills along with excellent commination skills. Travel is often necessary since clients can be located across the world.

According to Glassdoor, technical consultants make between $54,000 and $103,000 per year with an average of $74,395 per year. Entry-level technical consultants should expect to make an average of around $62,000 per year.
