Scam Email from Symplicity: ADECCO

We have been made aware of an email sent to students and alumni from the Bauer Symplicity Gateway email address inviting students to apply for a position with Adecco. While Adecco is an employer in Gateway, information indicates that this email is phishing and should be deleted.

We learned later from Symplicity (the vendor that operates Bauer Career Gateway) that the email message was not just sent to Bauer students and alumni, it included the entire national Symplicity database. The fake Adecco employer account has been removed and Symplicity has apologized for the incident.

Scammers frequently target students masquerading as legitimate employers. You can protect yourself by being diligent about the links you click and the information you share online.

  1. Check links before you click on them. Hovering your mouse over a link will show the URL. On a mobile device, press the link and hold down till a dialog box appears. The link destination (URL) will appear for you to visually inspect it.
  2. Emails from our office will direct students back to Gateway (https://bauer-uh-csm.symplicity.com) or to our website (https://careercenter.bauer.uh.edu/)
  3. When we share resumes with employers about open positions that they are recruiting for, they will have your name and email. These emails should not appear to be mass emails, they should address you directly by name.
