Scope of Position
EDF Renewables North America is a market-leading independent power producer and service provider with over 35 years of experience. We deliver grid-scale power: wind (onshore and offshore), solar photovoltaic, and storage projects; distribution-scale power: solar and storage; asset optimization: technical, operational, and commercial expertise to maximize the performance of generating projects, and onsite solutions, through the Company’s PowerFlex affiliate, offering a full suite of onsite energy solutions for commercial and industrial customers: solar, storage, EV charging, energy management systems, and microgrids.
We are looking for talented interns to join us for our 2024 Summer Internship program. You should be prepared to work in a fast-paced team environment and will finish the internship having gained valuable experience in renewable energies. This internship position will help the Regional Development team prospect for potential renewable energy sites by integrating business strategy, market research, and map-based GIS analysis into an investment thesis that recommends future site acquisitions. The intern will grow as a professional as well as an individual by learning from the whole South Development team and generating original prospect locations that are aligned with our corporate business strategy. The successful candidate will be an autonomous quick learner with an adaptive mindset, not afraid to take initiative, conduct original research, and learn from their colleagues. Successful candidates will also benefit from having strong GIS skills by being able to navigate geospatial datasets, overlay critical features in map-space, and generate figures supporting their prospecting efforts. Being able to identify risk, uncertainty, and risk-mitigation efforts will greatly strengthen the results of their efforts. Interns will interact with Project Developers, Directors, specialists, and external consultants to prepare for and manage site land acquisition, lease negotiation, site surveys, permitting, marketing, and/or pricing. The intern will also coordinate and cooperate as needed with regional and corporate teams in Resource Assessment, Legal, Land/Title, Transmission, Engineering, Accounting, Project Finance, Valuation & Transactions, O&M, and Asset Management.
Responsibilities
Goals of Internship:
- Prospect for potential renewable energy sites by integrating business strategy, market research, and map-based GIS analysis
- Develop an investment thesis for a particular market or land position
- Conduct site de-risking using available data sources, recommend additional on-site assessments for further de-risking.

Qualifications
- Currently enrolled, or recent graduate in a Master of Business Administration (MBA) program or graduate-level studies in an Engineering, Geography, Geosciences, Environmental Sciences, Sustainable Development-related field.
- Recent graduate in an undergraduate program of Engineering, Geography, Geosciences, Environmental Sciences, or Sustainable Development-related field.
- Prior experience in renewable energy, investment banking, or management consulting a plus.
- Available for full-time hours in Houston, TX during the summer months.
- Possess the eligibility to work and remain in the US without visa sponsorship, now or in the future.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to learn quickly.
- Strong time-management skills.
- Fundamental understanding of business development concepts, able to merge investment thesis with relevant renewable energy domain knowledge.
- Outstanding interpersonal oral and written communication, presentation skills; ability to adapt message, tone, style, and format for diverse internal and external audiences.
- Ability to integrate, analyze, and interpret GIS data in Google Earth, ArcGIS Online, as well as generate maps to support idea generation.
- Analyze complex problems and recommend a course of action.
- Demonstrable aptitude for project management; working knowledge of renewable energy preferred.
- Able to identify and characterize risks, uncertainties, and develop action plans for mitigation.
- Highly motivated, self-starter, ability to work well with others and be a collaborative and cooperative team player.
- Ability to conduct independent market research, title research, and technology research.
- Ability to read environmental reports and develop plans of actions based on the results.
- Strong attention to detail and high degree of organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with minimum supervision.

Working Conditions
90% office environment, up to 10% travel to a project site or land acquisition meeting.
