Hi, hope all is well! We’re a holding company looking for someone to run M&A across our new platforms/sub-holdcos. We need this person to start as soon as possible and location is totally flexible (i.e. remote). We’re solving for someone with great references for: work-ethic, being-extremely-organized/high-attention-to-detail, kindness, honesty + banking and/or PE experience. If interesting to you, we’d love to hear from you! Please email our anonymized inbox Hiring@teddyholdings.com with your resume (including your undergrad GPA and some indication of previous job ranking/performance). Note: Our process will rely significantly on references (but we will not contact your current employer without your permission, of course). Thank you so much and have a wonderful day! You can see our hiring website at https://www.headofma.com/.
NOTE: THIS IS NOT AN INTERNSHIP – THIS IS A FULL-TIME ROLE FOR ALUMNI
- Overview of Parent PE Holding Company
- We are a low-profile, value-oriented holding vehicle modeled after Berkshire Hathaway. We have various portfolio companies or ‘platforms’ (also known as rollups, aggregations or buy-and-builds). Each platform is capitalized with a long-term equity base and has the sole mandate of compounding cash flows for the long term, primarily through M&A. The founders/investment team is comprised of value investors from the ~$80bn private equity group [megafund PE firm] and the ~$50bn hedge fund [megafund tiger cub]. The team has a broad mandate and looks for opportunities across industries, geographies and the capital structure, although it primarily focuses on rollups.
- Overview of role / responsibilities
- Running M&A for all new/exploratory platforms/sub-holdcos; you will be responsible for M&A across 5 new/exploratory platforms/sub-holdcos, starting from introductory seller calls to IOI to LOI and ultimately to close. You will not be responsible for outreach/outbound sourcing. Deals will be generated from each platform’s sourcing/BD teams and will be sent to you for a first seller call. You need to have the salesmanship to engender trust and rapport with the seller from the first seller call, but you’ll also need technical M&A and process expertise to bring that seller/deal to a close. You will be responsible for all deals across multiple platforms. Your primary resources will be a team of virtual financial analysts and virtual assistants.
- Summary trade-offs of the opportunity
- (+) You will be an early team member at a high-growth holding company.
- (+) You will learn from a highly-successful PE team with a top investing track record.
- (+) You will have a big title and significant autonomy and responsibility.
- (+) You will have a lot of fun in a scrappy, entrepreneurial environment.
- (-) If joining a large, established company with a big brand is appealing to you or you enjoy structured environments, then this opportunity is not a fit.
- Qualifications
- Great references that speak to work ethic, kindness and honesty + banking and/or PE experience
- Low-ego, highly-organized, high attention-to-detail, highly responsive and conscientious.
- Superb at to-do-lists, execution and project management including managing multiple workstreams and teams of people (internal and external including managing sellers, lawyers, bankers, accountants etc.). We need an executional rockstar that keeps the trains-running-on-time and all the t’s-are-crossed-and-i’s-are-dotted. (To invert, we do not need the lazy genius who likes to go on long-walks and theorize, we need a execution killer!).
- Solutions-oriented, scrappy and does not need structure or direction to thrive.
- Open to all backgrounds but we generally value a high ranking in previous job (although investment banking or investment banking-equivalent is marginally preferred, such as consulting etc.) and to a lesser extent, a high undergrad GPA.
- Compensation
- We’re selecting for folks who view this trade as a learning-experience/entrepreneurial/fun/big title and growth opportunity vs. a brand name opportunity (which we’re not ;). Comp depends some on candidate profile, but base case is ~$200-250k/year in cash (base+bonus) + equity upside (+ Accelerated opportunity for career advancement after initial role (e.g. becoming an investment partner at holding company, becoming CEO of one of our platforms)).
