Job Description:
Criterion Research is seeking candidates for an Energy Market Analyst position. This posting is for an entry-level position in which the Analyst will be responsible for multiple roles.
The first will be focused on daily energy market news and events. News and data are the cornerstone of Criterion’s platform and serve as the foundation for all that we do. As an analyst, you will extract crucial information from our daily flow of news & data to drive long-form analysis and research.
The second portion of the role will be to spearhead new product development, under which a soft background in programming and database skills would be highly preferential. Criterion is making a significant push to broaden its report and data offerings in the energy space and is in need of a self-motivated employee to help move that effort forward.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop in-depth industry knowledge while creating research and publishing articles. There is also significant room for personal contribution to the work product. We seek someone who has a strong work ethic, the ability to extract essential details from large sources and is capable of adapting and learning new skills quickly.
Responsibilities:
The candidate will mainly be responsible for acquiring, sorting, prioritizing and writing on important energy market news on a daily basis. In this position, the candidate will develop a detailed understanding of the entire oil & gas industry via the most advanced intelligence platform on the market.
The job will consist of reading through articles, press releases and more to extract and write succinct snippets on key information relevant to Criterion’s customers and the energy industry as a whole. Regarding the second portion of the role, the candidate will work alongside Criterion’s team to brainstorm, develop and eventually implement new data sets, reports and publications.

Requirements:
- 4-Year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Excellent writing, grammar, and numerical skills
- Experience working with databases (Ex: Postgres SQL)
- Experience with programming languages
- High-level organization and analysis skills
- Energy industry experience is preferred
- Work well within a team environment
- Must be able to work in the United States
- This is a hybrid position (remote/in-person) in Houston, Texas. Includes 3-4 days in the office per workweek.
